SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Instigated and accountable for the digital transformation across 115 factories globally. Established and owned the digital changes necessary to improve manufacturing and engineering operations in 44 countries. Projects were the pre-requisites to drive the adoption of Industrie 4.0 capabilties.  Average improvements exceeded 15% reduction in effort needed from design to shop floor with annual operational savings between €0.5M – €2.4M per site.

Instigated and led programme delivering £6.4M annual benefits for global consumer business. Key accountable person globally for the strategy and execution of the processes, tools and organisation for a consumer electronics business to manage the innovation and Product Lifecycle Management of its products. Programme allows seamless execution of new product projects between the UK innovation centre and the development and manufacturing operations in South East Asia enabling flawless product launches across 44 markets.

Led introduction of new packaging across a $500M product range. Lead programme to develop and introduce a market leading and innovative packaging across the European consumables business for a global hi-tech company.  Project involved establishing manufacturing and supply chain capabilities and coordinating the launch of the products into the seven European markets simultaneously.

Led project to establish innovation strategy to increase revenues by 1%. Worked with the FTSE 20 FMCG company to establish a global innovation strategy and enablement project which will align global innovation processes and achieve savings in excess of $5M per annum.  Project was delivered to 5 geographical federally managed businesses and across the marketing and technical business functions.

Rejuvenated troubled $1M project to successful delivery. Employed as Programme Lead for UK’s largest healthcare retailer and manufacturer to invigorate problematic project to successful conclusion.  Replanned project budgets and managed expectation realignment at board level.

Sold and delivered $6M project to global leader of rail systems. Demonstrated business benefits potential of new product lifecycle management application to reduce engineering errors and improve engineering change times.  Managed board level stakeholders and directed project teams to successful delivery.

Sold and led development of global innovation strategy for large FMCG company. Worked with the most senior levels of the organisation to review and advise on new strategy for innovation approach and enablement.  Built confidence and demonstrated benefits to instigate pioneering solution which is being rolled out globally.

Drove adoption of PLM solution to reduce time to market from 9 months to 6 months. Planned and gave direction to highest levels of global consumer electronics firm.  Determined achievable business benefits, led package selection process and implementation strategy.

CAREER SUMMARY

SKF AB  (Global)          2014 – to date
Director  Product Lifecycle Management

Functional and operational leader within Group Technology at SKF, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer.  Nick is globally accountable for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) at SKF Group.  PLM at SKF encompasses the digital transformations within manufacturing operations and engineering globally.  It is used by over 4,000 people globally in over 44 countries from Research, Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales organisations.

Nick established the Group PLM Department which owns the strategy and execution of PLM activities, solutions and user support for all business units.  The department operates a multi-million Euro OpEx budget with a global headcount of 30+ predominately in Western Europe and Asia.  Responsibilities also include commercial relationship with PLM suppliers and ensuring close collaboration with Group IT.

Working with AB SKF Board, Nick has moved the value proposition of PLM from an IT solution to a key enabler delivering improved business performance.  Nick’s group level accountabilities include the delivery of the digital capabilities for World Class Manufacturing investments, Industrie 4.0 and data driven innovation.

Redeel Limited  (Global)                                  2012 – to date
Owner

Founder of Redeel Limited, providing advisory services to C-Level executives and Management Consultancies on how to instigate substantial improvements in Engineering and Operations through business transformation and technology enablement.  Working with clients to demystify the software salesman buzz words of Industrie 4.0, big data and similar into real business value and practical solutions.

Internationally recognised keynote speaker around the topics of Digital Transformations focusing of the practical delivery and the necessary changes to support the adoption of the new capabilities.

Accenture – Innovation and Product Development  (Europe, Africa and Latin America)       2013 – 2014
Senior Manager

Accountable for developing and driving Accenture’s offerings for innovation and product development within Management Consulting across the EALA region.  Working with local leadership teams and clients, Nick developed a portfolio of offerings that help clients with the complex problems of innovating and developing products in a global and digital economy.

During his first six months in the business he has been able to sell over $1M of newly generated consulting revenues, managed the integration of an acquired business into Accenture and developed a new engineering and operational service line with a client in a $200M+ multi-year deal.

His clients range from consumer goods companies, premium automotive OEM’s to industrial equipment manufacturers.  Typical engagement scopes include structuring global transformation programmes, advisory work on R&D cost efficiency and optimisation through to advising and implementing new operating models for engineering and manufacturing.

Dyson Technology Limited  (Global)                            2007 – 2012
Group Programme Manager – Product Lifecycle Management

A senior management role within Dyson and reporting directing to the Chief Operating Officer.  Nick was accountable for a £10M+ portfolio of major capital projects to deliver the strategy and execution of processes, tools and organisation for Dyson to manage the innovation and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) of its products globally.  Working closely with the Board and Group Executive, the first phase of the programme of work Nick instigated delivered at least £6.4M of annual benefit to Dyson and was integral to the business growth strategy.

Nick was accountable for the programme facilitating seamless innovation and product development across Dyson sites in the UK and South East Asia.  The programme included collaboration with outsourced manufacturing operations in Malaysia and Singapore and the maintenance of current products.

Further, Nick was accountable for establishing a new product category and business function integrating digital technologies into products, including the Dyson 360 Eye Robot.

Deloitte Touche & Tohmatsu  (UK and Europe) 2004 – 2007
Manager

Working within the Strategy and Operations Services team, Nick established and led the Product Innovation and Lifecycle Management (PILM) capability for the UK and Europe.  Working closely with the clients and Deloitte Consulting leadership teams, Nick helped redefined the business imperative of Product Lifecycle Management across business functions for a number of global businesses.

Providing leadership and direction to the European region, Nick was responsible of go-to-market propositions, sales targets, pipelines and delivery of key client engagements across all industries.  During the first year, Nick grew the PILM business with revenue in excess of $1M exceeding targets and expectations, growing to $3M in year two.  Building on his in-depth industry knowledge and recognised subject area leadership, Nick worked to grow Deloitte eminence in the manufacturing and consumer business industry segments, particularly around innovation for growth and new product introduction.

IBM Business Consulting Services  (UK and Europe)     1999 – 2004
Managing Consultant

Experienced consultant with IBM Business Consulting Services, working in the Supply Chain Management Practice.  Proven track record of deploying complex Supply Chain and Product Lifecycle Management solutions within large global corporate businesses.  Held several key positions in some of IBM’s largest European projects and managed consulting and delivery teams.

Broad experience in manufacturing, innovation and design engineering business consulting.  Worked in a wide range of businesses, both major multi-national blue chips and smaller enterprises, in most sectors (industrial, telecoms, electronics, transportation, retail and Consumer Packaged Goods).

Sold and led global supply chain and PLM implementations, and advised many companies at board level on the benefits and appropriateness of such systems.

Worked with new product introduction into manufacturing and current product optimisation through use of Design for Manufacture and Assembly and additional process optimisation tools.  Experienced in product redesign activities and specifications

Core member of implementation team that successfully deployed business critical software such as Enterprise Resource Planning and Product Lifecycle Management systems into engineering.  Introduced complex solutions into manufacturing, including computer aided development and collaboration tools.
